1. Caught 10 on points in 20 to 25 ft on c-rigs with wat/red baby brushhogs. Up shallow in 12 to 15 caught 5 on cranks Bagley DB3 in chili craw. Lake is still ten ft ...more high, but they are pulling water and it is very slowly falling.

    3. @Clayton, Good luck with your tournament! With this cold front it may change by then! The wind will be out of the NW so it may be blown out.

  2. Caught several on vibrating jig. Lake is very high and still rising. Most bites were in 8 - 10ft over flooded brush.

    1. Thanks for the info Shawn
  3. Caught several on a-rigs and vibrating jig. Lake is very high and only a few ramps are still open. If you are coming to Rayburn be very careful running the lake, ...more there are a lot of floaters and debris.

    3 lb. Largemouth Bass with a A-rig

    1. Andy, the southend below like Caney/Veach is clearing up, above that to north of the bridge is progressively mudder but definitely fishable. Believe it or not the ...more dirty water is producing better.
    2. Andy Ferrell 0
Nice job...what color is the water now? Chocolate milk or improving?

  5. Just an update on Sam Rayburn. The lake is 3.2ft low and temp is 68-74 depending on which end of the lake you are fishing. Heavy rains up north are flowing south ...more and raising the lake a few inches a week, rate might increase. The Big Bass Splash was Oct 20-21 and was cool and wind out of the NE. Weights were down with a 7.91lb winning the event, and many hours a 3lbr would get you a check. That is unbelievable for Rayburn. Most winning fish seemed to come from deep around 18-20 ft, mostly on soft plastic CR and TR. There were some topwater fish brought to the scales including my own. I caught a 3.41 Sunday morning on the second cast with a Whopper Plopper in bone color. That was good for an 8th place in the hour and a 250$ check. If your coming to Rayburn in the next few days expect it to be slow.
I think the lake is turning over or has turned over. There is a lot of grass broken loose and floating, probably due to the flood waters coming and wind the last few days. The fishing should pick up in the next week or so as things settle out. Good luck, and tight lines!

  6. Here are the best ones today, all about the same size. Bass are fattening up for winter.

  7. Finally got back out on the lake this evening. Caught 8 keepers all about the same size. Water temp is 78 and the lake is 3 ft low. Caught all of these on sexy shad ...more squarebill crankbait. The bass are chasing shad. Find the bait and the bass will be there.

  8. Starting to catch fish ganging up at the mouths of major creeks. It is starting to move toward a fall pattern. Today caught these on 8XD in 15 to 20 ft. mostly near ...more dropoffs into creek channels.

    1. Duane, any time we get a thunderstorm over the lake it drops the temps a few degrees and the fishing picks up. Right now the temp is running 86-90 depnds on where ...more you are fishing. I did catch quite a few yesterday on crankbaits and the water temp was down to around 86 on the south end. I would start shallow up the Ayish arm and if nothing is going on go out and crank the points and creek bends. you can watch your electronics and you can usually find some shad pods and the bass will be around. C-rigs are also working in the same areas, anywhere from 12 to 25 foot deep. Just keep an eye out for schooling fish out on the points also early and late.
    2. Duane Smith 0
Shawn, heading to Sam this weekend. hows the water temp with all the rain in the last couple of days? thinking about heading up the Ayish area...

    11. Yeah Chris here too. We have had some cool rains that have dropped the water temps a few degrees. It may not last, but I can hope.

  10. Caught her at 9 in the morning, surprised the heck out of me! This time of year once the sun gets up it is usually over.

    1. Morris I am going to come catch some with you one of these days!😎
    2. Still have some waiting for you Shawn:)
    3. I had a client that didn't want to use live bait. Had 3 shiners left in the well from the day before. Early the first morning,I took a 12" shiner out of ...more the well and asked him if he would just humor me for a few minutes. 5 minutes later he caught his first double digit a 10-9, next shiner caught a 9-3 he missed the third bass which was close to 11. Next 2 days he insisted on having 8 to 10 dozen shiners. Forgot all about his swim jigs:)

From our boat storage next to Hanks down to Mill Creek takes closer to an hour. I wouldn’t do it either if I were already catching the fish that you do!
    5. LOL, I can decipher the typos.
    6. It is very clear down here too. You can see down about 7-8 feet which is really clear for us. If it doesn't rain much it will stay clear until winter. It is ...more hard to drive 30 miles when I live five min from the ramp.
    7. Karen daniel 0
That was a lot of typos sorry I’m talking to my phone
    8. Karen daniel 0
Lol hey I love the Mill Creek area! We fish the north into more because that’s where my husbands family has their house. It has been different though in that ...more the water is really clear right now which is very unusual for that and leg and the school fish for catching are much bigger than I’ve seen in the 25 years I’ve been going up there. Night fishing in the creeks of Hanks was incredible. No my husband said he always used to be that way so here’s hoping But I’m not holding my breath LOL
    9. Karen, I have been hearing that from others. Up north has been much better. I guess I have to drive 30 miles and launch up north. Thanks for the tip.
    10. Karen daniel 0
Shawn, we were camping the past two weeks at the north end and we caught dozens of great fish, almost ALL at 9-10 pm or 10-12 in the middle of the day. Might as ...more well sleep in! 🎣
    11. Jesse Frey 0
      Good catch
    12. Caught some of my biggest bass in the heat of the dayπŸ‘Congrats on the catch Shawn. Nice Bass.
    13. I feel you Gene, it is hard in the summer months. I get a few in the morning and a few near dark. Middle of the day you got to fish deep or under the hydrilla.
    14. Gene Cowan 0
I've thrown so many square bill over rocks I've now got a collection of lipless baits. Jim suggested live baits and he is spot on. Bait shops cant keep enough ...more shiners in stock. I'm old school or stupid. I dont use live baits. Another month of this bite and I might be adding rod holders! I already have 2 livewell. Just need circle hooks. Nice bass! searching fior

About

Fish for mostly largemouth but enjoy catching crappie in the summer time. Really anything that tugs on the other end of the line is fun to catch.

Fishing Favorites

  • Species Largemouth and crappie
  • Waterway Big Sam and Toledo Bend
  • Lure C-rig is my fav, then crankbaits, shakey head jigs, football jigs and senkos. I am learning to fish deep structure more. Still working on that first ten pounder. Personal best is an 8.3lb.
