Fished 7:30-noon. Landed a steady mix of crappie and largemouth. This 18" (2.8lbs) was largest of the day. Gave chase and missed twice before finally hooking ...more up for good

that is not a bid bass but it is ok

Work commitments had me sidelined for a couple weeks. Could not let a near-80 degree November day go by without wetting a line. Tossed the worm into knee deep run ...more and bounced along bottom with the current when this near-14" specimen picked it up. Felt good wearing short sleeves at night in November. Air temp upper 60s. Water temp 50s.

and just go to nearby deep pools etc. your input points to this conclusion too. thanks ..always learning

@Smalljaw ive read his article on the three falls at least 20 times and it finally clicked with me last night after a week of finding clusters of smallmouth that ...more perhaps they dont migrate so far here
    3. Smalljaw 0
@justfish I know guys pulling smallmouth out year round in the Koko and Scioto. Your flow is much like those rivers.
    4. Smalljaw 0
@justfish you reading Holschlag? I have his books. I think in our area it is body of water dependent. In creeks and streams they move. In larger rivers they go deep

to nearby deep pools and eddies for their winter spots

@Smalljaw gotta ask..been doing some reading and alot of fishing latley...do you think we are in a region where our smallies actually do the big 20/30 mile migration..or ...more just move from summer spots
    7. Smalljaw 0
@justfish Thanks bud. Likewise. Some solid recent posts in your thread. Good job

With gusty tailwind tossed fluke into deep pool, worked back w/ current into rocky push water using erratic twitch retrieve on semi slack line. This one footer hit ...more the fluke next to an undercut bank. Good fight for the size. Nearly buried itself in exposed tree roots. Air temp 79. Water temp 60s. Overcast skies with showers moving in. Falling leaves making tough to penetrate water surface.

@JustFish Same. Got out for an hour before the rain. Few dinky smallmouth and bunch of rock bass which are the bane of my existence equivalent to reeling in a leaf.

Leaves, grass& wind definitely make things tough. Nice

As mentioned before everything seemed to be working. Once bite died on senko tied on fluke. Casting upstream into riffles, with rod tip down steadily turning reel ...more handle to maintain semi slack line while implementing twitch, twitch, pause retrieve. This 13" specimen hit on first cast working the fluke in 2' of water. Had two shake the hook tonight and final one peeled drag then line went slack

Fall bite is on. Been a couple weeks since I found them in the current. Standing in the pool and tossing the worm into the riffle bouncing it down the stream bed ...more this one footer hit before the lure made it to the pool. Found several good size rock bass in the area portending the smallmouth were in close proximity.

Everything seemed to be working this evening. Got into a few dinky smallmouth and a handful of rock bass before this one. Casting perpendicular to flow dropped the ...more senko in a calm pool along the rocks beside a current seam and he thumped it on the fall as the lure fluttered down.

Fishing a low, clear pool near where two branches of the river converge this little smallmouth hit bringing the lure over basketball size rocks on a slow roll retrieve.

Water temps at area impoundments are hovering around 70. Consequently have to imagine smaller streams are now in the 60s and smallmouth bass are migrating toward ...more wintering holes. Still finding a few scattered largemouth in runs and glides but the limited smallmouth I have found are concentrated in relatively deep holes. Couple dinky largemouth caught today hit on the retrieve rather than the fall.

They ignored the hard baits today only falling for soft plastics worked along the bottom

Bite went cold soon after prior BLert and switched to top water. Have found the Pop-R has the longest effective season of the top water lures I've tried. Often ...more get bit well in to October as this feisty 12" smallie can attest. Blew up on it in one foot of water no more than ten feet from where I was standing. Always seems the ones that hit top water have the most attitude. This guy was no exception

    1. Smalljaw 0
@Hatch11 thanks. Was a feisty one despite the smaller size
    2. Nice fish!
