1. Details: Red (redfish) Drum

I've been spending a lot of time in my kayak before the new school year starts. I've also been catching two or three of these small "puppy drum", ...more as they call them around here, each trip. Cast a minnow out on a circle hook and let it sink and start to swim. Found most on the incoming tide, in the shallower areas. Always fun! Weather conditions: air temps hi 70's - low 80's slight breeze from W

Took a few minutes this morning to head to the small pond in Calvert Cliffs State Park. I began with using a floating minnow jerkbait and caught one small bass, ...more but switched to the wacky rig. A few casts in I pulled it off the bottom and she hit it on the fall. Fought her for a few minutes and then landed her. Weather conditions: air temps low 70's, no breeze, clear skies. Water was very clear.

  3. Details: Chain Pickerel

I read about this pond, Williams Mill, just south of Delmar, DE, last year. I have visited it multiple times and decided to give it a try this weekend. I caught ...more lots of bluegill and black crappie. But I was also looking for big pickerel. I got this one just a small set of lily pads. He measured 23 inches! Fun fight w/ a great fish ! Weather conditions: cold and drizzly, air temps in low 50s.

  4. Spent a little time on the water this morning and caught a few. Got this nice redear in about 3 ft of water close to the shoreline. My bait was chartreuse craft ...more fur tied with red thread to a 1/32 Arkie jig.

    Redear (shellcracker) Sunfish

  5. Details: Largemouth Bass

Spent some time on the kayak on Sunday and was able to catch a few. I caught a couple bluegills, about 7 or 8" long, as well as a couple of bass to go with ...more them. I worked the sunnier side of the lake casting to about 4 or 5 feet of the shoreline. Looking forward to more time on the kayak. Weather conditions: air temps low 60's, slight breeze, bright very clear skies.

  6. Details: Chain Pickerel

Bell Creek, in the Pemberton Historical Park in Salisbury, MD, is one of my favorite spots when I'm in the area visiting my folks. I had an hour after I arrived ...more and spent some time searching for panfish. I caught 3 or 4 small crappie and saw a whirl along the bank. I made a cast and twitched the line and he hit it. Weather conditions: air temps mid 50's, no breeze, and clear skies.

  7. Details: Yellow Perch

With temperatures in the high 60's and even lower 70's, I had to get the kayak out one more time. I spent about 2 hours this morning paddling around casting ...more a small grub along the shoreline. Most of the fish caught were hooked up after the cast and a couple of twitches of the line. I ended up with about 15 or so with a nice mix of bluegill, redear sunfish, bass and even a couple of yellow perch.

Middle of November and I can still get out on the kayak - I believe I can say "Hurray!!" I was out casting a small jig looking for panfish when this guy ...more locked on. As I reeled him in I kept saying "Don't jump, don't jump" since I had lost one earlier along the same stretch of the shoreline. Tight lines ! Weather conditions: air temps mid 50's, cloudy skies, no wind.

  9. Details: Largemouth Bass

I spent some time this morning on Lake Lariat using various grub style soft plastics. Caught a trifecta of species (bluegill, redear sunfish & bass) making casts ...more along the shoreline and twitching it a couple of times. Weather conditions: overcast skies with air temps in the mid to high 70's with a slight breeze.

  10. Details: Largemouth Bass

Spent some time out at Bell Creek this morning trying different baits. I had mild success but caught the largest fish on a Rapala suspending jerkbait. Once again ...more I was casting towards shaded areas. This time I made my cast and gave a couple of jerks, paused, jerk jerk and on the second pause he hit. Great way to start the morning !
