Thanks for reply Novel. I went out this evening for a few hours on Lake Wheeler (also in a Kayak) and managed to bag one small one. My experience with this lake ...more has not been very good. It's the closest to my house (less than 10 minutes) but I just find it really frustrating. Like you said, other than hitting cover along the banks with worms and soft plastics I can't seem to make anything else work. I am beginning to think the extra 20 minutes to Harris Lake is well worth the effort!

This was my first fishing experience on Lake Wheeler (and actually a maiden voyage on a new kayak) but what I noticed was that the bite was better along the outside ...more corners of the protected inlets. Since the water is deeper and more active I think there is more baitfish for them there so the fish hang out there. This was caught directly across the lake from the boat ramp. Good luck

Hey Novel, I haven't figured out what works at Lake Wheeler yet.. thanks for posting. Any tips on locations that have produced for you?
