In Tampa with @crookcody19 for two days, plans to go kayaking in the bay got canceled so we tried the skyway bridge instead. Slow slow slow. Had live pinfish and ...more greenbacks out on the bottom and on pin rigs with no luck all day. Decided to try for sheepshead by putting a life shrimp by the pilings and keeping it a few feet off the bottom. Had two sheeps pop off and then this guy surprised me.

@TaylorG was a great fight for its size, lots of fun
    2. Taylor Glover 0
      still a nice fish.
    3. Sean Wilms 0
80 air temp, clear sunny skies, W breeze, incoming tide, alewives plentiful early on but later disappeared, not much going on, no mackerel or sharks like we hoped
    4. Sean Wilms 0
Gave a great fight on my medium action, thought I had a 4 or 5 pound sheepshead the whole time, defiantly a unique catch for me and saved me from the skunk.

Last week I set out to try and catch my first sheepshead with a buddy but I ended up slicing my toe open on an oyster and needed 6 stitches. Today I set out again ...more to finish what I started. Everything was against me, crazy wind and weather, super tides, wind knots, snags, freezing water but i managed to hook this guy (one of only two bites all day) and what a great fight. Had to pull him through a

    2. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 it has been for a while. I've tried my butt off trying to figure these fish out on my own and each time something would happen. But that just made this ...more catch that much sweeter finally
    3. Drew72 0
Congrats! I love catching sheepies. Sounds like the entire deck was stacked against you.

56 air temp, overcast with on and off rain, 22mph NE wind, freezing wind chill, water temp on mid 60s, very choppy conditions, low tide, tough fishing
    5. Sean Wilms 0
Bunch of old pilings and all kinds of structure that could have cut my line and he was pulling drag too on my penn battle. Would have liked a few more but I'll ...more take a 17" sheep, no complaints.

I've had a rough start this year, been getting out occasionally but getting skunked at all my good spots. Today I tried the jetty on the slack low tide and caught ...more tons of small fish but nothing to brag about. Caught many species from bank and Black Sea bass, to croakers, pinfish, small black drum, one nice sand trout, a mangrove snapper. Nothing took on the big poles but something managed to crush

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 I can't even find the reds right now. Only ones I've heard being caught right now have been offshore
    2. Drew72 0
Agreed. The reds have out smarted me the last couple of times
    3. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 your right. I'd still like to ace it most of the time 😉
    4. Drew72 0
If you aced it every time it would get boring. Or you'd be a world famous guide! With a top ranked TV show.
    5. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 that's true. Sometimes it feel like I'm not doing something right though when I go a few trips without something to show for it
    6. Drew72 0
I feel your pain. At least you're getting out 😉
    7. Sean Wilms 0
A brand new mustad 7/0 circle hook that a chunk of pinfish on it. Probably a nurse shark but very impressive that any fish could do that (in lower right pic) hoping ...more to get into some quality fish soon.

For probably the final time this year I tried again for some trout today but the conditions were horrible, rained all morning and then again at 5:00. Strong wind ...more but it was my last chance to get out before it gets really cold and have to go back to school and work. Only two bites all day, first was this pretty rainbow, the other I missed right after. Nothing would touch the spinners, very slow.

    1. Sean Wilms 0
52 air temp, water temp very cold, stained water from rain, vis if only about 1ft, lots of surface action but very hard to get a bite on anything, was surprised ...more powerbait was the thing to work.
  5. Details: Brown Trout

This beautiful morning I got a chance to chase some trout. Caught 3 very aggressive brown trout including a nice 16" bull. They would slam the spinner running ...more medium speed just out of sight in the 2ft vis water. Caught these guys in the 1st hour right after sunrise before the bite died off completely. Looking forward to having these guys for dinner soon, so much fun to catch these rare treats.

72 air temp, very cold water temp, water vis of about 2ft, moderate surface activity early on but calmed down quickly by mid day, mostly cloudy skies, changing and ...more variable wind, fairly windy day
  6. Details: Pumpkinseed Sunfish

I'm an attempt to find out what the rainbow trout were feeding on I accidentally stumbled upon a hybrid pumpkinseed bluegill school out deep in the pond. I caught ...more two of these big 9"-10" sunfish out in the middle of the pond in 6ft of water trying to get a tasty rainbow. Cool surprise but not what I was after. Was great to get out on such an unusually warm winter morning.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Went fishing early this morning at a spot that usually produces for me to try out my brand new Lews speed spool bass combo. Tried ...more throwing cranks and jerk baits early without any luck. Switched over to a finesse worm and still couldn't get anything. Only finally caught a bass on a white grub as well as an ambitious little perch. Slow slow bite, winter can mean

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@abuley34 today it was 70 something here! But it won't last very long, still got to enjoy it
    2. Austin Buley 0
Bet you're wishing you're back in those 70 degree Florida temps right now 😂 @seaturtles

Some really tough fishing sometimes. 53 air temp, water temp very cold, water level very low from light N breeze, water clarity around 2ft, little bit of fog and ...more overcast skies, slow action all mornin

  8. Details: Brown Trout

While trying for several hours rather unsuccessfully for the stocked rainbows I tried my hand at a spinner. Managed to get this aggressive beauty to slam my spinner ...more right by the bang. Scared me half to death and didn't even know they put browns in there. I'm excited to add this new species to my list and he tasted very good next to the rainbow I finally caught right before sunset. Good to be home

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@CJS21 from what I've seen I'd agree with that. If I had known there was browns in here I would have tried harder for them all along but I caught both of ...more these right before sunset
    2. Sean Wilms 0
51 air temp, water temp very cold, mostly clear skies, light NE breeze, water clarity of about 2ft, the rainbows seemed to be lurking out deep still adjusting and ...more the browns were in close andagressive

After getting some work done earlier this morning I took a nice little back country drive to Northwest River Park where I found out they had just stocked the lake ...more with trout. I still have a trout license from earlier this year and I was excited to go after a fish I rarely get to catch. The bite didn't start until right before sunset but I finally managed a rainbow out deep with only minutes left.

The warm front today brought in a 75 degree warm day this December Sunday. I had to take the kayak out for the first time in what feels like forever. Water was cold ...more as crap and it took me a while to find the fish. They wouldn't touch crankbaits of grubs but when I switched to the pink finesse worm I got results. The wind made it tough and I had to work the worm fast but I was able to land 3 bass,

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@ScottB that pink worm always produces in the dark waters with leafy bottoms
    2. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 unfortunately I still don't have a place to store it done there for this semester either but when I have an apartment next year I'll definitely be ...more bringing it down
    3. Scott B 0
Awesome catches! Glad those Nikko worms are getting the job done for you.
    4. Drew72 0
Nicely done You taking the yak south after the break?
    5. Sean Wilms 0
A little 1bler, a decent 2lber, and a very nice and hard fighting 4lber! Felt great to kayak again and despite the 20mph gusts I was able to get it done today, good ...more to be home for a few.
