And my biggest catch yesterday, another beautiful Gulf flounder! I'm convinced they know that the season is closed.
The first of what would have been a limit of Gulf flounder for me yesterday! Unfortunately, NC closed the season for all three flounder species in our waters after ...more finding the southern flounder populations have taken a hit from overfishing. Why they don't think anglers can tell the difference between the three species is a mystery to me, but I'm glad we can still enjoy reeling them in!
What a day we had yesterday! My parents and I finally got out again with Captain Tom Roller of WaterDog Guide Service and had a blast! By the end of the day we had ...more a cooler full of big bluefish (which were absolutely the most fun to catch on topwater plugs) and one nice speckled trout, but we caught so much more! Gulf flounder, red drum, croaker, pigfish, and lizardfish made it in the boat as well. Despite a slow speckled trout bite, this was my favorite inshore trip ever! I can't wait to get back out there!
Couldn't get a description to work last night! Things have been a little slow lately so we took a break from deep water to see if they'd be biting shallow ...more after the rain. I had a few blowups but this little guy was the only one who swallowed my frog. Not the big one we were hoping for but I'll take what I can get!
And here's the big red! It was a team effort getting this one in; my mom fought it for a few minutes then passed the rod to me to finish the job, and dad netted ...more it! What an awesome memory that we'll share for the rest of our lives. We're ready to go after reds on our own now!
