  6. Came up to northern Iowa to visit my brother and hit the ice, since we don't have any! 4 of us jumped to a couple different lakes all day and got a nice mixed ...more bag. Northern, walleye, crappie, and perch! Bite was VERY slow everywhere. The snow and frigid cold (-7) has everything messed up!

    5. Slow bite? That's a day to me, lol. Funny how you can have two really different climates in the same state. Here in CT its an hour drive south to north, sometimes ...more less, if not ice fishing one spot, your not ice fishing in any spot. We have had a very poor winter for ice fishing. Weather cant make up its mind. No fishing of any kind for me in month and a half due to skim ice and other factors. Going squirrelly, lol.

    10. I hire a guide anytime I am traveling to a new destination different from what I fish at home. Take your boat and gear go with the guide first day or two. Learn ...more all the important info and techniques for what works where you are. Go buy more gear to do what the guide was doing then. Go be successful on my own boat with my kids. It's always been worth the money!! I also think that Robert should take him up on the any lake head to head challenge and let me come along to laugh at the end of the day!!
    11. b ripoer 0
Yes he was off his rocker on that one. ha ha
    12. robert sent me the original comment....that guy has problems haha

    14. Some people need not think out loud lol. Alot of truth and wisdom what Morris,Robert,Brian,Noah and B ripoer said have well respect for all of ya.
    15. Robert Coleman 0
I didn't even notice till now! Kudos to the Fishidy staff! Thank you!
    16. Yeah!! It was a very ugly comment. Poof It disappeared

    19. Robert Coleman 0
I think THAT pretty well sums it up, Thank you Morris!
    20. I wasn't aware that Mr. Falco made all the rules governing fishing. FYI Joseph many anglers have fished with me during the last 33 years. Yes I have been a ...more full time Professional guide/Captain since 1986. Some of my clients are BASS Pros, FLW Pros,Presidents, and quite a few outdoor television hosts. They had no problem going with me and catching the bass of a lifetime. I should also say that I personally have caught over a dozen bass between 10 and 12 lbs on artificial baits. None of which were any more satisfying than the ones I have caught on live bait. If it were as easy as you suggest I think everyone would have a huge bass on their wall and I wouldn't have so many clients!!! FYI there is so much more to it than you will ever know. Fishidy is a community of anglers!! They are from all parts of the country and of all skill levels. If you don't like the way someone fishes. That's just to bad!!! Sorry, they don't have to follow your rules for fishing!!!! FYI you would lose!!!!!
    21. Robert Coleman 0
Thanks B! Lots of wisdom in your words. We are all on here to share our catches with everyone!
    22. b ripoer 0
Keep posting those big hogs Robert I enjoy seeing them. You and Capt Morris have a technique down pat for catching big fish period. Jealousy brings out the worse ...more in people and that's a shame. We are all on here for our love of fishing and seeing pics from other successful anglers. Every picture posted is a trophy of sorts, no matter the size or what it was caught on.
    23. Robert Coleman 0
Truer words were never said Brian! Morris has taught me a lot! Little tricks of the trade that have helped me catch bigger and better fish in Iowa! Thanks Brian! ...more
    24. Also in most of the Midwest there is much more pond fishing to be had than descent reservoirs or lakes to fish.
    25. Hey I got no problem with using a guide. It's not like Morris has a scuba driver hooking the 10 lbs hog on his line under the boat. It's fishing no matter ...more who you go with. I love paying someone that fishes the same waters 300 plus days a year to take me out and help them earn a living and support their family. They usually have some damn good knowledge and can put you on a good day of exciting fishing. Also I have gone out with guides and caught one or two small fish and wasn't mad either because it's fishing and there is never a guarantee. #hatersaregonnahate
    26. Robert Coleman 0
      Well said Noah!
    27. Noah Shapiro 0
Joseph I know you are not happy about the fact the Robert used a guide, but the guide was Captin Morris Campbell another fishidy user. Also sure he caught a twelve ...more pound bass on bait, but no-matter how he caught it's still a real nice fish and that's something anybody would post because it's a great bass. One more thing just because he doesn't fish the Same waters as everyone else it doesn't mean he is a bad fisherman. Just think of him as a resource for what he does.
    28. Lmao Robert, well said .Love to scroll by them lol "Priceless".
    29. Robert Coleman 0
@ Joseph: WOW! The jealousy you have just shown must be difficult to live with. I'm surprised you can get out of bed and even THINK of fishing. You say that ...more ponds and guided fish shouldn't count? Well, opinions are like a******s, everybody has one! Anyone can fish 99% of the ponds I fish. Here in the midwest, farmers are very considerate. All I do is knock on their door and ask. You'd be surprised at how many say 'yes'. And by guides, I will assume you are talking about my good 'FRIEND' Morris Campbell, who just happens to be a guide. You also say that you would never post a fish from a pond, yet back on Aug. 5th, 2017, you have 3 posts from a "private pond". Hmmmmm Hypocrite!!!!!! You keep posting them 2.5 pounders though, we all love to scroll by them! Alright Fishidy Members, he opened the can of worms: The forum is now OPEN!

  9. Before yesterday, I believed that the strongest fighting freshwater fish was a Smallmouth Bass! Then, Capt Morris took Lori and I to the Everglades and introduced ...more me to the Oscar! HOLY COW!!!! These things fight like a bulldog on steroids! And the different colors from fish to fish are amazing! This picture was #99(Lori) and #100(mine). We stopped counting after 125, but easily cleared 140, if not 150! We caught at least 25 Largemouth and more species. All in all, we definitely caught over 200 fish! Vacation is coming to an end, and we'll be heading back to Iowa soon. Morris out did himself this trip! Thank you again for an amazing trip Morris and an unbelievable fish of a lifetime! We will be back again!

    7. comp User 0
Great Catch! In Minnesota 6-8 lbs is as big as they get, but with more than 11,000 lakes 10 acres or larger, we have a lot of them, and no poisonous snakes, Alligators ...more or southerners (rebels) to deal with. The water up here is clean enough that it is safe to eat the fish our of our lakes too.
Here is a link to a fun site that shows off some of Minnesota's fishing. Take NO offense to my comments, I am envious and am waiting for an invite to join you on a fishing adventure.

Biggest Thanks to you Morris! You are a great captain and a great friend! Thank you again for the fish of a lifetime! Hopefully I can hold the biggest fish out of ...more the boat for the year, but if someone beats it, I won't be too disappointed!

About

I live in Iowa City, IA. Love to fish for anything that swims! Have the Iowa River close by and lots of farm ponds. Travel north every year ...more for ice fishing trip and once during the summer. Can't wait to try deep sea fishing and notch that one off of my bucket list.
