1. Was finally able to get a line wet in Minnesota. I had to search but I did find some open water
This link will show you last years success!

    1. I drove out with my pickup in northern Wisconsin last night on 32" of ice
  2. Snowed here the last two days and a whopping high of 37° today, so I decided to fire up the smoker for some beef brisket & ribs, and some BACON!!!!! ...more Can't wait for supper tonight! I'm sorry Fishidy doesn't allow smell-avision, this smells amazing! πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘

    1. Brisket takes skittles! Yum
    2. I'm definitely going to try that Brian! Thanks!
    3. I meant fry crappie.
    4. Robert when I try crappie I always cook a pound of bacon first. Then when people come trying to grab a piece of fish while I'm still frying I smack their hand ...more and give them a piece of bacon instead!! Plus you can't beat crappie fried in bacon grease!!
    5. I do fish the Iowa, but they haven't stocked many walleyes in the past few years. With the reservoir upstream, the river level fluctuates a lot unless we get ...more a good stretch of nice weather. Some crappies and plenty of catfish. Color doesn't change much from farmers, but gets plenty muddy after big rains!
    6. comp User 0
If you were closer to Minneapolis I would ask for an invite, that looks delicious. Do you fish the Iowa River, and does it turn green after the farmers fertilize ...more the fields?
    7. Man must feed to stay alive. You must be alive to fish!
    8. Bill Gary 0
What's this have to do with fishing?
    9. Nice. Great idea
    10. No, I just like to keep some smoked bacon on hand in the freezer to add to recipes for extra flavor..... baked beans, chili, etc!
    11. Is that how you cook your bacon or are you making something? Never seen it cooked like that?
    12. NJ Squatch 0

  5. Made a trip to the pond this morning. Ended up with a nice meal (or two) of crappies and gills. Most caught on Waxworms, but a couple crappies on minnows. 11 crappies, ...more most 9" gills! Big rains coming tomorrow with 55° and ice was just under 5"thick, so this might be the last ice fishing here. 😒😒😒

11 in. Black Crappie with a Waxworm and Minnow

  7. Not much fish-ing this weekend with all of the snow to move, but nephew took today off to go with me. Water was a LOT clearer than the last time we were here. Don't ...more know if it was the weather change or the clear water, but they were NOT biting very well today. It was tough going. Mike nailed this nice 15" - 1#13oz. Crappie to at least make a decent meal with the few bluegill we caught.

1 lb. 13 oz. 15 in. White Crappie with a jig & minnow

    1. Awesome catch, the last few times I caught some crappie, I was lucky if they were even a lb. I haven't done a catch and cook in over a year, I would catch and ...more release the crappie, bass or even the bluegill. The main pond that I fish, I haven't kept anything in the past 2 years and the owner asked me a few weeks ago if I could harvest some out of it bc he said that it's probably getting overpopulated but there's been days where it was 78° in Feb (Louisiana weather) and I didn't catch anything and I basically used everything I had. I want to catch a crappie that's almost 2lbs
    2. Nice Crappie
    3. Dave Seay 0
      Really nice white!

  8. Started at a pond at 6am that I fished last weekend. Plenty of cold weather this week but ice was only 3" thick 10 feet from the bank. Backed out of there and ...more headed to a different pond. Pulled about 20 gills out of this one. Biggest was 10.25", most 9-10", a few dinks. Released everything.

10 in. Bluegill with a Spoon with Waxworm

    1. Joel Norikane 0
Way to go letting those big gills go!!
    2. beautiful
    3. Truman White 0
      Chunk gills!
    4. Robert Coleman 0
Biggest I've ever caught in this pond is 11.25" last year. I'm hoping they will reach 12 by this summer or next winter. Can't wait til I can pull ...more one of those through the ice!
    5. Rich Pardy 0
Same with us Robert, the public lakes are pounded so hard and most dont follow the size regualtions so its tuff to catch quality fish on any of them, its hard ...more to find a 6 inch gill here in Chicagoland. Those are some quality gills brother, I have never caught one that size let alone 20!! Looks like fun!!
    6. Robert Coleman 0
Chris P. For us in Iowa, our best chance is private farm ponds. Anything public doesn't have a chance with everyone keeping everything they catch! Which is ...more sad, but that's how some people fish. If I find a new pond, I go ask the owner. It's amazing how nice MOST are and Will let you fish... and then you have the flip side. But it doesn't hurt to ask!
    7. what's the secret to finding these really big ones!!?? had a mess of 8inchers the other day but nothing 9+ which would be considered very big here.
    8. Denny Williams 0
      Very nice!
    9. Robert Coleman 0
      get* = feet
    10. Robert Coleman 0
Thanks guys and Melissa. Chris, I was sitting in 12 feet of water and the bigger gills were actually 2-3 get off of the bottom. Keep an eye out for suspended ...more fish!
    11. Chris Hoakley 0
Big gills in there I heard so maybe ill post a gill today that'll match yours hopefully 🐑🐑🐑 Perchin'
    12. Chris Hoakley 0
I'm headed out this morning to a fist time shallow pond max depth is 10 deet and its a fairly good size pond. I'm probably wasting my time but ill try it ...more out. Bout 16 inches of ice ill try the 8 to 9 foot area then if no luck ill hit the weeds in 3 foot water.
    13. Melissa Norris 0
      nice gillsπŸ˜€
    14. Michael Balog 0
      Very nice my friend!!!
    15. Bryan Harper 0
      You’ll get it!
    16. Robert Coleman 0
Thanks everyone! Bryan, luckily this is a private pond and not too many get to fish it. Hoping someday they reach 12"!
    17. Bryan Harper 0
Nice job Robert! Love strong, bigger Gills! A couple of lakes within an hrs drive of my house used to have lots of big 10”-12” Trophy Gills.I don’t know if it’s the ...more fishing pressure or the lakes transitional stages but haven’t seen a Gill over 9” in a while. On one of the lakes an 18”+ Walleye choked on a 6” Gill! That lake is shore only fishing and there’s some big Walleye’s lurking out there.Someone caught a 27” Walleye a few years back. Not very many Walleye lakes in the far west of Colorado!
    18. Derek Stitt 0
      chunky gills, nice job Robert

  9. Ray and I went to an old private gravel pit today and got enough for a meal. 2 biggest crappies were 11.5" & 11". Caught them first then it was all ...more bluegill and the 2 smaller crappies the rest of the morning. Ice was waaaaay better here than on the farm pond I was on yesterday.

  10. Friend and I headed out on the pond today. Warm weather all week and the shorelines were a little spongy going out. Took forever to even mark any fish, but they ...more eventually started biting. Very slow morning, but we poked out around 20 bluegills to eat. My bass was 18" - 3lb 4oz. But my buddy got the big one of the day..... 21" - 4lb 9oz!!!!!! Nice Hawg through the ice! We left at 2pm, temp was 48° when we headed back to shore...... 3 feet of water between ice and land! Needless to say, it was a quick step and jump into the water to get back.
