1. Proof that catch and release works! Here is a close up of my last post, a largemouth caught first in late August and again a few days ago. The cold water has made ...more the lateral line more pronounced, but you can see the same spot pattern, as well as the uniquely colored fin that I didn't even notice the first time I caught him! He was only about 20-30 yards from the first place I caught him.

Thats sweet Jacob.. Yes it does work!!. but it helps when the lakes arent over pressured either. Great job on identifying that fish 👍
  2. Felt really good to set some hooks again after a month long break! Broke through some ice at the launch, but got on a great bite and put 20+ in the boat. However, ...more as I was looking through my old photos, I realized that my largest fish from this trip was actually the same fish I caught back in late August! See my next post for a closer view.

  3. I'm sure there were better options than bass fishing on this 45 degree day😂 Made the best of some bad weather and a really tough bite. Not exactly the size ...more I'm looking for, but every bite is special this time of year. Ice and snow will be here before we know it.

  7. Two days ago was easily the craziest day I've ever had in this spot. I lost nine pike on tubes, a jerkbait, and a swimbait, all in a stretch of water less than ...more 50 yards long. They were inhaling everything I was throwing for bass. Most were a few inches smaller than this, but I did lose one giant that felt much heavier. Great Lakes pike have always fascinated me, they're really beautiful and healthy fish!

That's a good looking pike Jacob! Awesome catch! 👍👍👍👍
  8. Felt good to finally stick a big one again! Cracked 20" for the first time this year. She ate the tube once and I swung on her and missed. I let it fall back ...more to the bottom and waited a couple of seconds before picking up the slack and she bit it again. This time I didn't miss 😁 I've found that killing the bait after missing a hookset can often get you a second chance at the fish, as long as you didn't drive the hook into it's mouth. This time it paid off with my biggest smallie of the year.

  9. Skinny 19"er in the shallows at last light. My longest Chain bass of the year; too bad she didn't have more girth! Fall is not far off, days are getting ...more shorter and big fish are on the move. This is the most exciting time of the year!

About

Fishing has been my favorite hobby for as long as I can remember. I grew up fishing small rivers and lakes around my home in Central Wisconsin ...more for bass, trout, and panfish, and as a mechanical engineering student at Michigan Tech, I've had great opportunities to fish some of the many beautiful lakes in the UP. I fish for just about anything that swims and enjoy targeting new species, but I especially enjoy the fight of a smallmouth bass and the serenity of wading a trout stream.
