My wife and buddy Andre came out for some fun catching crappie. I was catching a fish almost every cast. I finally convinced Andre to change colors to the same as ...more mine. He did and his first cast landed the biggest crappie of his life. 16 3/4 inches and fat. Andre is 6 foot 5 inches just to get some perspective on the size of this crappie. We released her back into the after a few pics to continue spawning and pass on her genes to the next generation of Lake Hopatcong monsters.
I caught a ton of monster fish on the Gajo baits line last year. Spirit Shads (dropshot bait), Gajo Sticks (senko style bait) and Swim Shad (swimbait) they have ...more you lined up for largemouth, smallmouth, walleye and pike.
Some of my favorite colors are AYU, Green Pumpkin Blue-highlight & the new perch! Have to check that perch color out...it's killer in the stick and dropshot. If anyone wants to chat about the baits or colors for certain bodies of water just send me a message.
2.13.17 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report
Hello from the NW Angle!
On the Minnesota side, fishing has really picked up this week! The ice is thick and temps are ...more nice, making for a much more pleasurable hard-water experience. Less turbidity has really allowed for more natural colors to work. Using the dead stick is still producing the most fish with depths under a foot off of the bottom. Lots fish in the slot, as well as, multiple over 28!
On the Canadian side, walleyes are being caught in transition zones, with gold and pink and whites being the hot colors. The crappie bite is at 30ft plus in the mud with Tungstens topped with plastic. Jigging spoons with a minnow head are also producing fish.
Until next week,
Sunset Lodge Ice Team
