1. After catching hardhead after hardhead, (about 12) I got a hit that seemed like yet another hardhead. Went to set the hook, and it started taking line. After a looooong ...more fight, (I was using my lightest setup, Berkeley Cherrywood HD Rod, Med-Heavy/Lew's Speed Spool) we landed this guy on the pier. 30 lbs and my first big ugly! Took a lot of work but he was well worth it, back into the water he went.

  2. These little guys wouldn't leave the baits alone today. Must have caught a few hundred. Targeting reds but when these guys kept eating my bait I decided to switch ...more to a smaller hook and at least catch SOMETHING. Anyone know if it's legal to chop these up for bait?

    Pinfish with a Squid, shrimp

    1. Joel Quintanilla 0
@swampmafia yeah, that's actually the blert that made me think this one was a lane lol. @reel_smooth @reelgame @fishinggal as long as it's small and it swims ...more it's good bait lol
    2. Swamp Mafia 0
Pinfish aka piggy or piggy perch. Good bait. I have a blert of a lane snapper if you want to see one.
    3. Reel_Smooth 0
Lol!! @fishinggal bait fish it is
    4. fishinggal 0
@JoelQuintanilla I think lane snapper has the dot more by the tail and the fins look a little different.
    5. fishinggal 0
Okay @Reel_Smooth . You're probably right because that fish has dot at the gills. Perch family? How about calling it summer time trash fish or bait? lol
    6. Reel_Smooth 0
None the less... Still great bait
    7. Reel_Smooth 0
@fishinggal piggies are more round and dont have the yellow shade if i'm not mistaken.

  6. Details: Channel Catfish with a Cut Mullet Head

Was just walking along the bank fishing for bass when I found some leftover mullet that someone had caught in a cast net and forgotten, so I tied it on and threw ...more it in. I was getting ready to go home when the rod suddenly flexed and he started taking line. 6.5 pounds.

    1. Gabe Mitchell 0
      Ha! What ever works!
    2. Joel Quintanilla 0
Size, it was just one I had in the bottom of my box lol. Anyway I think he was just holding it. I don't think he swallowed it enough. @reel_smooth 😩😩
    3. Joel Quintanilla 0
Yeah I let him pull for a few seconds before I set it, but I still think it might have been too early. I had half a mullet on there and I was using a medium sized ...more circle hook. I don't know the exact
    4. Reel_Smooth 0
I'm holding the rod before i set the hook. But if it has a fish alarm, i let it run for a while.
    5. Reel_Smooth 0
When you soak bait, the key is to let them run with it. When its a big bait you know its usually something with a big mouth to swallow it. I usually let them pull ...more it for like two seconds strait if
    6. Surf_Monkey 0
      Patience grasshopper. Patience...
    7. Joel Quintanilla 0
@fishinggal I just set the location
    8. Joel Quintanilla 0
It's pretty dark but I'm under a bridge so the street lights keep it well lit. @fishinggal @reel_smooth should've known earlier lol
    9. Reel_Smooth 0
      Patience is a virtue!! Lol?!
    10. fishinggal 0
lol @JoelQuintanilla It's not too dark out there?
    11. Joel Quintanilla 0

  9. Details: Largemouth Bass with a Zoom Swimmin Super Fluke Jr., Watermelon Seed

I was actually casting a spoon and working it along the edge when I saw this guy go for it but he didn't open his mouth. He didn't go for the spoon anymore ...more so I switched to a worm, went for it with mouth closed again. This repeated for 3-4 casts, all with different worms and flukes. Finally I switched to the swimming fluke and he inhaled it on the first cast. 2.5#

  10. Details: Largemouth Bass with a Johnson Splinter spoon 1/2 oz.

Went out in the cold today because I absolutely had to try out my new reel. Casting the spoon out under some tree limbs, bringing it up to the surface and letting ...more it flutter down was the key. Didn't even feel this little guy hit it, reeled it in, he felt like algae or grass on my lure until I pulled him out of the water.

    1. Joel Quintanilla 0
I fished by Randall's once but it was a bad day. Haven't gone back recently. If you have a yak we should go sometime
    2. AllWaterLife 0
I fish upstream. Around Randall's a lot and even further up. Also a few places in bay oaks but they haven't been producing recently.
    3. Joel Quintanilla 0
@AllWaterLife which parts do you usually fish? I've been wanting to kayak fish t for a while but I need a buddy lol
    4. AllWaterLife 0
True that. Yea I used to fish Horsepen all the time. It's a nice bayou but I don't know much about the wider parts of it.
    5. Joel Quintanilla 0
Yeah that plus the fact that he only weighed a few ounces lol. I would've invited you if I knew you were around there. I'll let you know next time I head ...more out @allwaterlife
    6. AllWaterLife 0
Probly too cold for him to fight much. Looks like you had a good day of fishing.. In my neck of the woods
