After catching hardhead after hardhead, (about 12) I got a hit that seemed like yet another hardhead. Went to set the hook, and it started taking line. After a looooong ...more fight, (I was using my lightest setup, Berkeley Cherrywood HD Rod, Med-Heavy/Lew's Speed Spool) we landed this guy on the pier. 30 lbs and my first big ugly! Took a lot of work but he was well worth it, back into the water he went.

These little guys wouldn't leave the baits alone today. Must have caught a few hundred. Targeting reds but when these guys kept eating my bait I decided to switch ...more to a smaller hook and at least catch SOMETHING. Anyone know if it's legal to chop these up for bait?

Caught a few of these guys today, nothing else was biting. Had a lot of fun though, this was the smallest one but I really liked her paint job. In total about 8 ...more channel and blue cats. Let them all go.

Yup @reel_smooth I have the same reel. Never got to use it, I got it as a hand me down from my dad. He had it on a Penn Mariner Stand Up Rod, 6'6". He said ...more he used it for deep sea a while back. He liked it.

Was just walking along the bank fishing for bass when I found some leftover mullet that someone had caught in a cast net and forgotten, so I tied it on and threw ...more it in. I was getting ready to go home when the rod suddenly flexed and he started taking line. 6.5 pounds.

I was actually casting a spoon and working it along the edge when I saw this guy go for it but he didn't open his mouth. He didn't go for the spoon anymore ...more so I switched to a worm, went for it with mouth closed again. This repeated for 3-4 casts, all with different worms and flukes. Finally I switched to the swimming fluke and he inhaled it on the first cast. 2.5#

Went out in the cold today because I absolutely had to try out my new reel. Casting the spoon out under some tree limbs, bringing it up to the surface and letting ...more it flutter down was the key. Didn't even feel this little guy hit it, reeled it in, he felt like algae or grass on my lure until I pulled him out of the water.
