John, I have another suggestion for you, and that is go to U-Tube and search for fishing in north florida or central florida, or what ever you may be interested. ...more I fell in love with U-Tube as you can get very good information about what ever you need, be it fishing, working on your car, how to fix your washing machine, etc. You can look for "fishing around Ocala", and I would bet there are many videos. Let me know what you find out. I'd bet there is even something about fishing for catfish around Ocala. As for as the fishing you did, and fishing for bass, or crappie or blue gill, fishing is fishing. Oh yeah, here's another thing, most bait shops are willing to help you out, as is the folks that work in Academey Sports.

Anyway, let me know how you make out, and if there iss anyway I can be of assistance, I'm always here.

DAVID,THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR FEEDBACK. MY WIFE AND I RECENTLY MOVED TO OCALA IN 2012. WE R FROM SOUTH JERSEY & LOVED TO FISH FOR CAT FISH & CARP IN THE ...more LAKES & RIVERS. WE ALSO WOULD RENT OURSELVES A 20FT BOAT AND GO FLOUNDER FISHING 5-6 TIMES PER SUMMER. NEITHER OF US KNOW VERY MUCH ABOUT BASS OR TROUT FISHING, ALTHOUGH I GUESS WE SHOULD START LEARNING SINCE FLORIDA IS KNOWN FOR THIS TYPE OF SPORT. YOUR ST. AUGUSTINE SUGGESTION SOUNDS EXCELLENT AND WE WILL TRY THIS. WE BOTH LOVE ST. AUGUSTINE ANYWAY. IS Flounder FISHING BETTER IN SUMMER OR NOW WITH COLDER TEMPS? PLEASE KEEP IN TOUCH AND LET ME KNOW HOW THE TWO OF YOU MAKE OUT ON YOUR MARCH CHARTER. BEST OF LUCK & MOST IMPORTANT HAVE A GREAT TIME & BE SAFE. JOHN

John, good luck in your quest, and I can be honest and say that I haven't had much luck since the cold weather has gotten here. The last trip to the St. John's ...more produced on three small catfish, instead of the Croaker we were after. And our two trips to the surf didn't even produce a bite, and no one else was catching much.

My wife and I just recently started fishing after a lay off of almost 30 years. Bought a nice little 16 foot center console boat which is nice for the river, and we have always enjoyed surf fishing, but mostly did that north of Jacksonville at Little Talbot Island. If you might be interested in trying the surf, the St. Augustine area is pretty good, and you can get a decent rod and reel at Wal Mart or Academy Sports for about $35.00.

Enjoy and good luck. My wife and I are signed up for a private charter ($400.00 for two people, for 6 hours up this way out of Mayport the middle of March, to try and learn a little about fishing this area better.)

John, I can't help you much, I live a bit farther north, although I know people fish on either side of the bridge over the river in Palatka. Also, I don't ...more know how convienient it would be but you could fish the intercoastal from the draw bridge or the bank on either side of the bridge on highbridge road that runs west from A1A, but that's closer to Daytona.

Mill Dam, isn't that close to Lake George? My neighbor goes down there a lot, and it is a wide spot in the river, should be very accesssable for you.

I AM VERY ...more NEW TO FLORIDA, MOVED TO OCALA, LAST YEAR AND TRYING TO LEARN THE BEST LOCATION W/O A BOAT- ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED E-MAIL johneyi@cox.net - thank you
