  1. Details: Largemouth Bass

Can anyone guess about how big this is? I just started bass fishing so I can't really judge the weight by the size yet, and I didn't have a scale.

    1. John Buttacavoli 0
      bout 2-1/4
    2. BenKitt605 0
      I measured it. 20".
    3. BenKitt605 0
I'm 6' 5" so my hands are big
    4. Sean Wilms 0
Judging by your hands in reference to the fish that fish was only about 14-15" long so ya 2lbs is about right
    5. BenKitt605 0
No, it was definitely bigger, at 20 inches

  2. Details: Atlantic Stingray

Finally got an entire day off from work so I hit the pier again hoping to finally catch a brag worthy saltwater fish. That didn't happen. I only had one big ...more take all day and that was this decent bullnose Ray, which was a first for me at the least. Several cobia were hooked into and one shark but they wouldn't touch my bait. I caught several bluefish, barjacks, and menhaden for bait later.

Been working a lot lately to pay for school and the summer heat has kept me from getting out to much. Stopped by a little creek connected to a lake I used to fish ...more way back when for a few minutes but couldn't take the heat long caught some small creek bass and some decent sized sunfish on the white grub, they wouldn't take anything else in any other color. Always fun to get so many strikes.

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@CJS21 idk why but poppers have never worked for me, just one of those lures that in personally don't like
    2. Sean Wilms 0
Ok I'll definitely be giving a chatterbait a try soon. Hopefully it won't be too long until I get a cool morning or afternoon to fish again @TaylorG
    3. Taylor Glover 0

    4. Taylor Glover 0
chatterbait with a paddle tail fluke jr has been working well for me since i first tried it 2 weeks ago. its like a swimbait, spinnerbait, and crankbait nixed in ...more to one...the vibration draws insane
    5. Sean Wilms 0
Sorry bad typos. I did try a spinnerbait today*
    6. Sean Wilms 0
@TaylorG I have a spinnerbait a try today as well as a few other lures but it wasn't till I tried the white grub that they went nuts
    7. Taylor Glover 0
try throwing a chatterbait in there...ive been slaying 5 pounders out of my creek with the chatterbait
    8. Sean Wilms 0
95 air temp. Water in mid 80s, lots of small baitfish around, sunfish in tight schools near beds, bass in shade ambush points, water clarity of about 2ft, fishing ...more in less then 2 FOW

  4. Details: Blue Fish

Also a spadefish and 4 blue crabs, all caught on the Virginia Beach Pier.

    1. Sean Wilms 0
Still looking to get my first spadefish. What were you using?
  5. Details: Atlantic Stingray

This is all I really have to show for today. I caught lots of small bluefish early on and one decent Spanish mackerel on gotcha plugs but the bite quickly died and ...more I had to scrounge and conserve bait. I missed one potential cobia to a crimp failing on a leader I bought. The stingrays and sharks got thick around 5 ish. I hooked and battled two big stingrays. The first which was easily twice the

    1. Sean Wilms 0
I would if I had a kayak to take it out with. For now I need to use setups I can cast a long way from the pier and beach @Jimmy_Lynch
    2. Jimmy_Lynch 0
@seaturtles penn senator combos aren't too expensive to find. Get yourself a 6/0 or 9/0 and spool it up and get after them
    3. Sean Wilms 0
@Jimmy_Lynch mines an Abu Garcia ambassador 7000 with 20lb mono mainline on an offshore angler ocean master 12ft heaver
    4. Jimmy_Lynch 0
What setup are you currently using?
    5. Sean Wilms 0
@Jimmy_Lynch maybe once I get a saltwater kayak and a big senator reel I'll try Ray but until then j got to go with bait I can cast.
    6. Sean Wilms 0
@pondking I believe it. Last year I hooked a ray pushing well over 100lbs but I couldn't get it up the 30ft water column with only 20lb test. The one yesterday ...more was probably about 80 it wasn't small
    7. Sean Wilms 0
@tampafish actually the Chesapeake bay has the best cobia fishing in the world during the summer. They go as far north as New Jersey. I only recently got into saltwater ...more and no I have yet to land one
    8. Jimmy_Lynch 0
That's good shark bait my man.
    9. pondking 0
Stingray put up crazy fights I caught a 80 pounder on a charter a month ago and it was the hardest and longest fight I have ever had by a mile it was an exaughsting ...more 45 minute fight but it was a blast
    10. tampafish 0
Didn't know cobia were up that far north have you ever caught one
    11. Sean Wilms 0
88 air temp, water dirty and turbulent, 2-4 foot swells, water temp 82, very little baitfish at all, few working birds, slow and frustrating day, hoping to beat ...more the bad lack saltwater streak soon.
    12. Sean Wilms 0
Line failure toward the rig. I went home a bit frustrated but at the very least I was able to sell this stingray for $15 to some lady that likes them so my ticket ...more more then paid for itself.
    13. Sean Wilms 0
Size of this one broke the line when I was passing my rod to someone to help me get around another pole. The other was this decent guy. I also had two sharks bite ...more me off and two more brake me off due

Partly cloudy, light breeze, calm, water temp 87. Caught six fish total. 3lb was the biggest. Picture is a 2 lber.

  7. Details: Other Shark

This is the only good fish I landed today, kinda had a tough day with loosing rigs and fish. This dusky shark wasn't big but it fought surprisingly good. I hooked ...more into two stingrays, one of which pushing 70lbs I got to the net twice but still broke off and the other popped off. I also hooked 3 other sharks, one being a 5-6ft monster but threw my leader and the other one bit through as well and the

    1. Sean Wilms 0
@CJS21 that sucks man. Usually sharks are some of the easier fish to get in if they don't bite through the line. I was just off or something yesterday
    2. Sean Wilms 0
88 air temp, water temp in high 70s, glassy early water, lack of wind, incoming tide, lots of menhaden around, mostly clear skies.
    3. Sean Wilms 0
Last broke off due to a line disfunction. The bigger stingray broke the top guide to one of my heavier a too, dam... At least there was no shortage of baits.

  8. Details: Spanish Mackerel

After the big fish stopped taking and the menhaden went offshore I decided to throw a gotcha plug around and see if I could pick up some Spanish macks that everyone's ...more been talking about. Had to weed through a bunch of blues but eventually connected with a Mack. Then everyone took over my spot which was frustrating. Once they stopped I tried again and caught a nice 22" smack, hit my gotcha hard

    1. Sean Wilms 0
For sure. I've tried them before, i think they are very good fresh but freeze it once and it gets a very strong fishy taste @coolguychris
    2. coolguychris 0
Cool man. Caught some of those last year in Florida. Not my favorite fish to eat... But really fun to catch
    3. Sean Wilms 0
@bassinboy01 bluefish was shark bait. But I had so much menhaden by the time I ran out and started using bluefish the bite died. I'll be back in a few weeks ...more next day off I get and get revenge
    4. Jacob Breaux 0
Porque no use the bluefish as shark bait? Looks like you turned it into a good day despite the lost fish!
    5. Sean Wilms 0
Good luck then! They are there for sure, ill be going out of town @Wallard
    6. Wallard 0
@seaturtles my dad and I are going ocean front this weekend! I'll saw this and had to tell you.
    7. Sean Wilms 0
88 air temp, water temp in high 70s, good water clarity, vis of about 3 feet, clean, swells only 2-3ft, pretty calm, light offshore breeze, mostly clear skies, lots ...more of menhaden around, high tide.
    8. Sean Wilms 0
From beneath which was awesome! Very strong fight too. In total I caught well over a dozen smacks, about 3 dozen small blues?and a bunch of menhaden on the snag ...more rig. (And missed a nice shark)
