Erie Pennsylvania Sport Fishing Association- EPSFA Summer Slam tournament recap.
Team Nemesis generated 187 bites and boated 171 fish in the last 4 days (148 ...more walleye, 21 steelhead, 2 lake trout). It was a pleasure watching our 2 youngsters on board, Logan and my daughter Olivia who reeled most of our fish in!
7/23 & 7/24: Search mode for big fish... we fished west on Thursday and East on Friday covering some water and filling the fat boy with meat. Our box out east was bigger than our box west so on game day the decision was to go east.
7/25 & 7/26:
Day 1 started out fast and furious with green fish on lines as soon as we sent them out. About 4 hours into the contest we had 3 tournament caliber fish, 2 greens and 1 silver. We deployed a 100% steelie program, bumped up our speed and worked 85 to 110 fow for a few more silver upgrades during the last few hours. We lost a good walleye and steelie at the back of the boat that could have improved our box, flawless execution it was not. Our box weighed in at 55# and some change, good enough for 3rd.
Day 2 we decided to work the same area and go flawless for a better box than yesterday. Of course our motherlode of fish that we were on disappeared (it's a tournament, that's what happens!). We made some adjustments and found some sparse spread out bites, all clone 3# eyes with a few steelhead mixed in. The caliber of fish that we were looking for were not in our zipcode today. Day 2s box was a disappointing 50#.
Hot steelie setups for us included placing Michigan Stinger Pro Team and Team Dreamweaver spoons on our Traxstech Corporation elite riggers down in 50 to 65 degree water as indicated by our Fish Hawk Electronics probe. Team Dreamweaver divers back 175 to 200' took a few massive trips as well. Walleyes fell victim to our FishUSA stealthcore tipped with a variety of plugs.
Over the 2 day tournament we placed 4th overall in the pro division. Congrats to team Reel Adventure for their back to back monster green fish boxes!
Thanks to all the members (TJ, Manny, Al, Scott, Logan, Olivia) and supporters of team Nemesis for another tournament run!
