  4. On the south end... Strong walleye bite this week. Water temps cooling off, migration has started and walleyes are putting on the feed bag for winter. Walleyes ...more in good numbers along south shore with a big school still in front of Lighthouse Gap (mouth of Rainy River) in 28' - 30'. Various schools of walleyes along south shore and also holding to structure areas. Emerald shiners continue to run in some bays and Rainy River, but not heavy. Anglers having success trolling crankbaits, drifting spinners and anchored up and jigging. The fall jig bite is coming on strong. Some live shiners are available at local resorts and bait shops.

    On the Rainy River... Emerald shiners in the river, not a huge run, but it has started. Continued Good reports of walleyes in Four Mile Bay as well as up river east of Baudette. Most common depth, 14-16'. The fall run has definitely started. Snelled spinners and jigging the go to method. Sturgeon anglers also reporting good success as well.

    Up at the NW Angle... Walleye fishing excellent. Walleyes being caught in various spots around Garden Island and around islands and in funnel areas between islands. Jigging around structure and pulling spinners or cranks over flats all effective. Crappies and perch activity continues to pick up as water cools.

  5. On the south end... Walleye fishing is excellent. Healthy mix of eaters (under 19.5"), slots (19.5 - 28") and overs (28"+). Jigging with frozen ...more shiners or leeches super effective. Drifting spinners with crawlers also producing nice walleyes. Main depths are still 29-32'. Gold mixed with orange, pink or chartreuse strong color choices. Some walleyes coming on crankbaits.

    On the Rainy River... Sturgeon keep season July 1st - Sep 30. 1 per calendar year 45-50" or over 75". Positive reports from sturgeon anglers. Walleyes relating to holes in river, current seams. Smallies in rocky areas, weed beds and bridges. Pike on edge of weed beds. 42 miles of navigable river.

    Up at the NW Angle... Walleye fishing remains excellent. Mayfly hatch nearing end. Drifting spinners west of Little Oak producing combo of eaters and slots. Jigging and pulling spinners on and around reefs in 13-20' and around islands producing walleyes in Ontario. Smallmouth bass being taken on cranks and spinnerbaits over rocks. Big muskies caught and released this week.

  6. On the south end... Great limits of walleyes continue both over the mud basin of Big Traverse Bay as well over structure. Most anchored up and jigging with frozen ...more shiners or leeches. Drifting spinners with crawlers hot technique as well. Main depths, 29-32' with shallow bites happening based on wind and hatches. Gold mixed with orange, pink or chartreuse strong color choices.

    On the Rainy River... River offering up smorgasbord of species. Walleyes coming from current breaks and rocky areas.. Trolling crankbaits producing and a good way to locate fish. Smallies relating to rocks, bridges. Pike in and adjacent to bays and current breaks. Sturgeon season opened July 1st for the catch season and reports are good.

    Up at the NW Angle... Walleye fishing remains excellent. Anglers finding mayflies and crayfish in the stomachs of walleyes. Jigging and pulling spinners on and around reefs in 22-28' all producing walleyes. Saugers, pike, and perch also in the mix. Muskie anglers continue to catch fish with some big fish over 50".
