A majority of boat anglers reported not landing a single trout. ...more Near the power plant, successful shore anglers reported catching several rainbow trout by employing either yellow PowerBait or worms off the bottom. Most of the reported catches from shore anglers consisted of homogeneous groups of 10 to 14 inch rainbow trout. Without the assistance of a dock at Dexter Point boat ramp, boat launching might be a more onerous task. Midday water surface temperatures were in the high 50s. Near the Whistler Point fishing access, rainbow trout were taking Elk Hair Caddis but shunned bait completely. At the Dexter Point boat ramp, shore anglers landed a few rainbow trout on PowerBait. During the day, the lake trout migrate to depths of 60 to 90 feet. Midday boat anglers targeting mackinaw may want to explore fishing deep water with a jig coupled with sucker meat or to troll the bottom of the lake with a downrigger. Successful boat anglers caught several rainbow trout by trolling either a bronze Colorado lure or a red and white spinner at the lower lake. The upper lake was less productive when compared to the trout catch of the lower lake. Near the power plant, shore anglers caught several rainbow trout on a mosquito (a type of dry fly). At Whistler Point fishing access, shore anglers caught a handful of rainbow trout on rainbow power bait and gold colored spinners. Midday water surface temperatures were in the mid 60s. Between dusk and dawn, ravenous mackinaw are cruising the shorelines seeking forage near the channel linking the upper and lower lakes. During the day, the quintessential behavior of a lake trout is to migrate for deeper water. Boat anglers reported catching 15 to18 inch lake trout on jigs without sucker meat at a depth of 35 feet. Shore anglers experienced the most success fishing near the power plant when compared to other areas of the lake. Near the power plant, shore anglers caught several rainbow trout on green PowerBait, worms, wet flies, and rainbow rooster tails. At the Dexter Point boat ramp, shore anglers reported that the fish activity had tapered off from last week. No surveyed shore anglers caught a fish at the upper lake, although boat anglers were able to land a few lake trout at the upper lake. Midday water surface temperatures were in the mid 60s. A majority of boat anglers reported not landing a single fish, with a handful ...more of boat anglers catching a trout. Successful boat anglers reported catching a few rainbow trout on worms. Lake trout anglers experienced some success using lures at the lower part of the lake. The most productive fishing from shore has been near the power plant. Shore anglers reported catching 8 to 12 inch rainbow trout on yellow PowerBait, garlic scented PowerBait and orange scud. Near the Dexter Point boat ramp, anglers were catching rainbow trout on Kastmasters. Midday water surface temperatures were in the mid 50s. Fishing for large lake trout in the inlet area of the lower lake and near underwater structure ...more has been very productive lately. Mackinaw are cruising shallow water looking for forage. Fishing early and late in the day with large Rapalas has worked well. Anglers fishing from shore fared better at the lower part of the lake than the upper part of lake. Shore anglers reported rainbow trout striking pink PowerBait near the power plant, and lures were found to be effective near the Dexter Point boat ramp. The dock is tentatively scheduled to be set up at the Dexter Point boat ramp by June 10. The midday water surface temperatures are in the low 50s.
