  2. The bass bite is good. Bass anglers are reporting success in multiple backwater areas along the lower end of the lake, particularly those areas with semi-clear water. ...more In the clearer water areas, lures like swimbaits, senkos, and light colored Texas rigs are working. In the dirty water situations, dark colored T-rigs, jig-n-pig combos, square billed crankbaits and chartreuse spinnerbaits should be your best bet. The crappie anglers continue to target those same areas as the bass anglers. Camp Pratt also continues to be a popular area as well. Look for jigs to continue to catch more fish than minnows. Try using chartreuse in your jig color selection during this spawning time of the year. The catfish bite is similar to Columbus Lake as anglers having some success just off the channel but the fish seem scattered.

  3. The crappie anglers hitting the Pratt’s Camp area have been catching some nice crappie. Some crappie were caught in shallow water up against the banks, while other ...more anglers had success fishing deeper in 6 to 10 feet of water. With continuing warm weather, look for the bite to continue to be good. The bass spawn has started particularly on the lower end of the lake around the Coalfire and Rivermont areas. Texas-rig plastics like lizards and creature baits are popular lures for these fish. If you’re not targeting spawning fish, swimming a jig, spinnerbaits and swimbaits are could techniques to try. Don’t be afraid to throw a buzzbait early and late in the day as well. The white bass are making their run to spawn and a few anglers are taking advantage. The Lux is a popular area for these fish. Lures like rooster tails, crankbaits and chrome colored lipless crankbaits are good lures to use.

  4. Anglers are reporting a fair bass bite on Aliceville. A few anglers are fishing the creeks and the riprap right below Columbus Dam and reporting some success. These ...more anglers have been throwing white spinnerbaits and square-billed crankbaits. Other areas with good reports are Camp Pratt, Kincaid Creek, and Big Coalfire. Best baits have been t-rigged plastics such as brushhogs, along with shallow shad patterned crankbaits and spinnerbaits. The crappie reports are fair with most anglers working the timber and brush at Pratt’s or other backwater areas with some depth. Both jigs and minnows are catching a few fish but try both techniques to see which the fish prefer. Catfish reports are the same for Aberdeen and Columbus with most folks hitting the channel and the mouths of the old river runs with jugs and rod-n-reels with some success. Try cutbait and small whole-shad.

Best baits have been t-rigged plastics, shallow crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Finding the shad is key. The crappie reports are fair with most anglers working the timber and brush in backwater areas. Both jigs and minnows are catching a few fish as one may out produce the other on any given day. Catfish reports are the same for Aberdeen and Columbus. Most folks are hitting the channel and the mouths of the old river runs with jugs and rod-n-reels with some success with whole/cutbait.

Try flukes, walking baits and buzzbaits early, with spinnerbaits and shallow crankbaits getting the nod during the day. Creeks like James, Kincaid, and the Lux are popular. The catfish bite continues to be good for both rod-n-reel and jugs. Most anglers are fishing the channel at the mouths of the old river runs and also fishing in the river runs. Best baits have been liver and cutbait/whole shad. The crappie reports continue to get better as the water cools. Camp Pratt and Swedenburgs are popular areas. Anglers are fishing 4 to 8 ft of water and targeting the ends of laydowns or wood on deep banks. Try both jigs and minnows to see which the fish prefer.

Most action has been on points and flats on the navigation channel. Best depths have ranged from 1 to 5 ft. Texas-rigged and Carolina-rigged plastics are good bait choices, with buzzbaits and frogs getting the nod for the early and late topwater bite. The catfish bite is fair to good along the navigation channel and the mouths of the old river runs. Cutbait/whole shad and liver have been best baits. Crappie anglers are starting to show up in Camp Pratt, James Creek and in Big Coalfire. Most are targeting the deeper banks that have wood and grass. Both crappie jigs and minnows are catching fish but may choose one over the other on any given day.

  8. Most bass reports are still coming from the old river runs on the lower end of the lake. Places like Camp Pratt and Big Coalfire are still popular. Early and late ...more in the day, target the grass beds and shallow cover with buzzbaits and frogs. Later in the day, target deeper banks containing wood or grass with t-rigged plastics, jigs and spinnerbaits. Other good areas to target in the fall will be James Creek and Kincaid Creek. As we have more and more cooler weather, look for these areas to start loading up with both baitfish and bass and crappie. The catfish bite is fair along the navigation channel and the mouths of the old river runs. Cutbait and liver have been best baits. A few crappie anglers are starting to show up in Camp Pratt as well as James and Kincaid creeks. Most are targeting the deeper banks that have wood and grass. Both crappie jigs and minnows are catching fish.

Others are ...more targeting the backwater areas like Camp Pratt and the Coalfire area with topwaters, soft plastics and jigs. Some crappie action is being reported around the Nashville Ferry area, particularly in James Creek. Anglers are either trolling or pulling jigs around some of the deeper bends or vertical jigging with either minnows and jigs around the laydowns. The catfish bite is fair along the navigation channel and the mouths of the old river runs. Cutbait, kool-aid flavored chicken and liver have been popular choices. Any current should help the bite.
