If I'm using 3-6 inch bluegills and creek chubs, what size and style hook should I use? For big channels and flatheads.

Thanks @SwampMafia and I use smaller baits because smaller and big fish will take it haha because very rarely do I or see anyone catch big fish. @trevorfish

Exactly what I do with carp up to 3lbs lol it feels weird using small bait now haha @SwampMafia I was just messing with you lol I know you don't use 11/0's ...more for a tiny bait.

@trevorfish I like circles, but that's just personal preference. I try to use big baits for one main reason, to keep the small fish off my hooks and give the ...more big cats time to find it.

3-6in gills are pretty small for flatheads but will catch channels easily and flats. A 3in gill is small so use a small hook. Don't go putting an 11/0 in a 3in ...more bait or it may kill it 😉 @SwampMafia

I mainly use j hooks like gamakatsu. Circles will work but I prefer j's myself. With gills I would use 5/0-10/0 but it depends entirely on how big the bait is ...more so use what fits the bait size

Either should work just fine. For best results match your hook to your bait. The bigger hook will work for 6"+ sunfish and bullheads. The 6/0 should be good ...more for medium sunfish and medium cut baits.

Thanks @SwampMafia I got 6/0 and 8/0 gamakatsu circle hooks, it seems like there big tho the 8/0 is about 1.5 inches around

Circle hooks are still not a standard size across all brands. I use 11/0 mustad circles and they are about 1" around. I have caught some channels and blues ...more that are less than 12" all the way up to big
