Unless your fishing a topwater swimbait, most of the time your best off fishing the very bottom. On every cast I make sure I allow plenty of time to let my swimbait sink to the bottom. That way I can just crawl it along bumping into structure. Just make sure you are using a bait that doesn't have hanging trebles, otherwise you'll lose a lot of baits fishing like this. She was a fighter!

That's true! I would think that since LA is such clear water that bass could see big 50 lb line and pass up the lure

@willgrunau I think leaders are overrated. I NEVER use a leader. And as you can see, it hasn't stopped me from catching fish.

The fish don't see the 50 lb braid?

@GotEmCustomBaits No mods, weedless Hudd. Hit it close enough to the head to get a good hookset. Working the shelf bottom 10-15 FOW

another great catch. how deep did she hit it? was it a head or tail strike? modded hudd?
    16. Mike Ammenwerth 0

Thx for the advice! To be honest, you are my fishing role model.

@Bo_Wiltshire I prefer top trebles on my swimbaits unless they are floaters. There's nothing worse than losing a pricey bait. For the money, BBZ's are awesome!
    19. Bo_Wiltshire 0
What do you think of the 8" bbz-1 slow sinking rainbow trout color? I just got one... all I need now is a rod and reel that can throw the monster. I live in ...more Westlake and fish a lot on town lake.

So like reel slow by structures or bounce on bottom?
    24. Mike Ammenwerth 0
@jackmawer Slow and steady wins the race. Big fish want a big easy meal. They're opportunistic, so give them a good opportunity.
