  best/easiest time for crappie is spring with the water in the 55°-65° range. they're spawning on the rocky banks. road runners or minnows if they're ...more on a nest off the bank more than 4 feet deep. at least that's how we fish 'em in Kentucky. after the spawn, when water warms past 70, they move out to deeper water.
