About Atlantic Salmon

Large black spots on the gill cover (neither Pacific Salmon nor Steelhead have these). Large scales, and small black crosses and dots on back, rarely any spots on tail fin. No red stripe along lateral line, lower jaw hooked on mature males. 8-11 anal fin rays. Atlantic Salmon are predominantly silver with a dark, blue-green back but can be totally silver or dark grey in freshwater impoundments. No large teeth in the mid-line of the roof of the mouth.
